Pressed Wool Felts Our pressed felts are made to the highest standard containing between 50% to 100% wool (application dependant) with the balance normally being viscose.
Pressed wool felt is made by utilising the natural properties of wool to lock together when processed with water, steam, mechanical abrasion and drying. We have stock available in a range of densities from 0.11gm/cm³ to 0.75gm/cm³ and a variety of thicknesses from 1mm, in white, grey and black. Available in cut parts to individual customer requirements or sheets and rolls
We are able to offer additional treatments to the majority of our wool felts (subject to minimum quantities), these include:
Proofing against rot, mildew & moth
Water repellent and flame retardant
Adhesive backing with release paper
PTFE
Latex Backing
Lamination
Our felts are manufactured to European standards which can be cross-referenced to British & American equivalent specifications (BS4060, DIN61200 & SAEF).
We also have a 100% wool felt available in a comprehensive range of colours, our “ELITE” material is 5mm thick and has proved to be a popular choice with designers & architects for a variety of applications including window displays, rugs & tableware.
Please refer to our Elite section for further information.

Natural fibres have minor variations in structure which can affect how much dye is absorbed, therefore colours are subject to variation between each production batch. The material is dyed using environmentally friendly products
100% wool is regarded as a safe fibre in its flammability. It is self-extinguishing & inherently flame retardant. The natural flame resistant properties of the wool fibre are connected with its relatively high nitrogen & moisture content. When considering flammability, it must be remembered that virtually all materials are flammable in certain atmospheres & conditions.
Flame Proofed ELITE is available upon request & subject to minimum batch quantities. This treated material will provide a felt that is tested to BS476: Part 7: 1997 Class 1Y.
Cleaning Instructions: If soiling should occur, gently spot clean the area with warm soapy water being careful not to saturate the felt with moisture.
Whilst it is possible to manufacture a needle felt with wool content, the majority of our Needle Felts are 100% synthetic. As the name suggests the fibres are locked together by a needling process.
The correct choice of fibre is dictated by the application, with the choice incorporating: Polyester, Viscose, Polypropylene, Polyamide, Acrylic, Para-Aramide (Kevlar®, Twaron®, Dara®), Meta-Aramide (Nomex®, Teflon®), and Melamine resin fibre.
POLYESTER – Low cost fibre with good abrasive resistance. Working / Peak temperature 150º
POLYPROPYLENE - Good chemical resistance & biodegrable. Working Temperature 90ºC / Peak Temperature 100ºC
META-ARAMIDE (NOMEX® / CONEX ®) – Good temperature resistance. Working Temperature 180 ºC / Peak Temperature 220ºC
PARA-ARAMIDE (KEVLAR® / TWARON ®) – High tensile strength, good resistance to cuts, abrasion & heat. Working Temperature 180ºC / Peak Temperature 500ºC
VISCOSE - Good moisture absorption properties. Working temp 80ºC/Peak temp 94ºC.
We are able to supply material to the highest standard for the industrial safety and protective clothing markets, reducing the risk of injury from cuts, abrasion, heat, aggressive chemicals and ballistics.
Polishing felt is generally a high wool content product, available in sheet form or converted into wheels, bobs and mounted cone format. This felt is used to polish or clean many surfaces ranging from ice skates to turbine blades and from diamond rings to spectacle frames.
It is available in the higher densities from 0.50 gm/cm³ to 0.80 gm/cm³. It is supplied either in sheets or in custom made wheels/discs in a variety of diameters and thicknesses up to 100 mm.
This is a well established product for Naish Felts, supplied in a range of widths and in 100% wool or a blend of wool/viscose fibres. All felts are made to the appropriate national standards and are subjected to compression and recovery tests during the manufacturing process.
Each roll is carefully inspected and any inclusions, which occur naturally in wool, are removed in order to provide the end user with a fault free product. The standard densities available are 0.11gm/cm³, 0.13gm/cm³ and 0.16gm/cm³.
